The sacred valley of the Inca(Valle Sagrado) extends from Pisaq along Urubamba River to Ollantaytambo .The Urubamba River is also called Vilcanota(holy river).Because the soil proves to be very fertile,,the valley is used for plantation of corns. This was extremely important, for it provided food for the Inca population.
The sacred valley belongs to the most important site of Cusco. Many rivers, which have their sources in the snowy mountains , gather together in the valley.
The Incas called this region "Sacred Valley".recognizing its importance.
Pisaq is a picturisque town with colonial , Indian and mestic character. Every
Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday there is a souvenirs market in the town square. Every Sunday there is also a Mass in Runasimi(Quechua),attended by the mayor.
Beside the market lies the ruin complex of the town, which makes it interesting to visit. It is possible to go by bus and be a witness to this Inca Era.Much nicer would be to climb up from the town. It takes 30 minutes. The route leads to the stone ruins, passing by many terraces.
This fortress was built by the Incas on a narrow mountain ledge over the valley.Pisaq was one of the most important towns of the inca kingdom after Cusco.
